I was pretty surprised to find out the average cost of a conga drum, even used on ksl I was looking at $100+ with no stand. I was quite excited to find this gem, and now that I have it, I am very pleased. Please keep in mine I am not a conga drum expert, I play the guitar and have formal training in music theory and vocal training. This thing is heavy!! It feels well made, solid and sturdy. The matte black is beautiful, and sleek. This is evidently a Quinto drum, which is smaller than a conga but larger than a nino. It looks exactly like a conga to me, but I am sure if you had them side by side you would be able to see the difference, I *THINK* the Quinto has a slightly higher pitch than a Conga, but it sounds pretty bassy in the center to me and you can adjust the pitch with the tuning pegs and the wrench that comes with it. (I will post a rundown of the different size drums at the end of my review.) Continuing on, this comes with a stand, the stand is heavy, made of metal and feels sturdy. The part that holds the drum has lots of soft rubber cushioning so I am confident the drum is not only stable but well protected. Now if a child jumped on top of this thing it has the potential to fall, but with normal use, maybe even a little abnormal use.... the stand will do just fine. The head feels like it is real rawhide, not plastic, but I am not 100% sure I would know without both being side by side. I LOVE the sounds it makes, it is earthy and deep and just lovely.Worth every penny! From wiki, drum sizes:The supertumba can be as large as 14 inches across (35.5 cm).The tumba is typically 12 to 12.5 inches across (30.5 to 31.8 cm).The conga is typically 11.5 to 12 inches across (29.2 to 30.5 cm).The quinto is typically around 11 inches across (about 28 cm).The nino/requinto can be smaller than 10 inches across (24.8 cm).The ricardo can be as small as 9 inches across (22.9 cm). Since this drum is typically played while hanging from a shoulder strap, it is considerably shorter and narrower than a traditional conga.
