My OEM brake lever was completely rusted and seized. We tried everything to get it apart but it wouldn’t happen. We bought these, threw them on and had the Jeep fixed in 15 minutes.

This is a must-have if you are replacing the parking brakes on a rusty old Jeep TJ. It's really not confusing to install if you look at the part that you're replacing... the only frustrating thing is getting the old rusty bits out. One side lever in mine was completely seized up and had to be cut out, but after that this replacement slid in like butter. I used the other "half" of the kit to replace half of the other side. The rubber is probably only useful if you are cutting the dust shields out (otherwise almost impossible to replace correctly). Dorman FTW once again!

I would have given this 5 stars, but like another reviewer noted, the "L" and "R" do not correspond with typical car parts. The passenger side needed to use the part marked "L" - I wasted quite a bit of time trying to get the "R" to work as expected. Otherwise, it is a good product.

I bought this to replace a badly worn part on my 2003 Jeep Rubicon TJ. The kit comes with 3 plates. The first plate is the lever that engages the park brake cable. The other 2 plates allow for repair on either side. Do NOT get the idea that the plates are labeled in a way that makes any sense at all. The plate for the driver side is labeled “R” and the plate for the passenger side is labeled ‘L”. That backwards of what I expected. Calling Dorman for technical assistance was a waste of time.Bottom line, buy the part and look closely at the parts you take off.

Fit 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Can do one side per unit ordered.Works on left or right side. 3 metal lever pieces and rubber boot included. 2 lever pieces are for either left or right side, stamped L or R.Previous parking brake arm was locked with rust. I recommend taking pictures to assist with reassembly of the new parts. Once they’re clicked together they’re not real easy to take apart. Proper installation requires pulling the hub and removing the brake shield. The rubber boot goes behind the brake shield and it’s difficult to remove/install the lever pieces without removing the hub and shield. I opted to leave the old boot and cut the old lever out without taking anything else apart. May be able to separate the 2 pieces for removal if it’s not too rusted. Torch and wd-40 didn’t work for me, used an angle grinder. Installation was easier than removal. Inserted one piece through old boot, then clicked the other piece into place.
