I attempted to learn to play fiddle about 20 years ago, briefly, and now I am taking it up again. So I am in no position to judge whether this is a “good” bow or not. I can say that it seems solid and well-made, it works, and after managing to put quite a lot of rosin on it I was able to get a decent sound on day one. That latter point, putting rosin on it, was challenging, probably due to my inexperience and the fact that it was a brand new piece of rosin. So if you are in that position, here’s a tip: scratch the heck out of the rosin with something sharp. At first I tried coarse sandpaper, with a little success. Then I went to Amazon to see if the maker of the rosin had any tips. They did – to scratch it up a bit. I used a fingernail cleaner that’s built into a nail clipper, and cut some pretty pronounced lines across the surface, crosswise. After doing that things went fairly quickly.I see there is another review that said the bow would not take the rosin, even after a week of trying. It seemed like that to me, too, at first. I was even wondering if it was actually made of horse hair, or something like black monofilament line. It didn’t seem to have any “tooth“ to it, until I got a little on there to get it started. There may be some variability in quality, of course, but if you are having that problem, do some violence to your block of rosin and see if it helps. Also, the bow is shipped in a clear plastic rectangular tube. My old bow (from 20 years ago) got eaten by bow beetles, and I want to avoid that fate for this new one, so I’m not putting it back in my fiddle case. Instead, I’m going to keep it in this clear shipping tube. I understand light is good for preventing those beetles, so this seems like a safer place to store it than in the case.

I’m very impressed. Apprears to be good quality in this bow. Sound great on my violin. Great shipping. Love it.

I purchased this as an emergency buy with a budget because my other bow broke. Immediately on open it has several quality issues. The wrapping around the spring was already mostly peeled off, the grip has ragged and unsealed edges that are coming up, there are chips and scuffs in the bow, and the hair doesn’t tighten evenly. In top of which was exceptionally difficult to try and rosin. I am extremely disappointed in this and would not recommend.

I’ve had this bow for a year and a couple weeks. It was great until it wasn’t. The hairs have been falling off left and right the last week. I’m not tough on it and I do use rosin so there’s no reason for this to be happening other than poor quality. I’ll attach a photo and note that before a week ago. I don’t recommend getting this if you want it to last

Plays good, nice balance; however, hair retention isn't very good. I am losing/breaking strands and it is new and probably won't last a year.

I had been warned that black horse hair was coarse and did not play well on violin bows, but I was curious. It plays very well just like my white haired bow. It is equal to better than my other carbon fiber bow. It is light at 60 grams and a balance point close to 20 cm. It appears to be pretty straight with ample bow. I am pleased with the sound.

The bow is light probably compared to wooden ones. Carbon fiber will last longer than wood. This a nice bow. My mom taught me violin when I was a kid. I used to play few songs. Starting over gonna try learn violin again. But did some research if you want a decent violin for a cheap one replace strings with good ones the tail piece and bridge with carbon fiber ones I think create a little better high end violin. Also if you want put a Amina nova carbon fiber soundpost in it too but it’s around 600 dollars. I might. Do all that I think it sound good to play if your not in a professional orchestra. If so some them violins run 1500-6000 and sound carry throughout an aditorium. Just my opinion I ain’t a expert or nothing. My grandparents were they played in orchestras in their church

Bought this for my daughter who has been playing the violin for just over a year as her now hair was old and really dry and gross, we read amazing reviews of this one, loved that it is carbon fiber as she has to travel between two households and school and invade it has to stay in the car it will be fine. We are completely in love with the black horsehair, we had never seen that before and it is so fun plus’s it is beautiful texture and provides such a great sound quality on her student violin. Her violin teacher was impressed at the sound change from this now too. Highly recommend!
