This is a direct replacement for the tach in my boat that quit working after 20 years of service. This tach works and looks great. Installed and wired exactly as original.

The description on Amazon does not mention it but this model is designed for inboard and I/O applications. The tachometer signal from most newer outboards is driven by the alternator and if you have a 12 or 20 pole alternator it will not be compatible with this tach. Faria does offer the same style of tachmometer (SS Cheaspeake) in an outboard version, but its a different Faria part number. More info is available on Faria's website but the description here on Amazon should be corrected to note this. One other note, the model that is meant for outboards will have 0-7,000 rpm scale vs this model which is 0-6,000.

Works as a direct replacement, make sure you look at all the settings on the back of the Tach. Took about 40 minutes to replace,mostly due to the little fat guy trying to fit in the console....

Wiring connectors different size than originals in my bayliner. Made easy installation much harder.
