This fan assembly is supposed to be a direct replacement for a model 683C Broan, however I have tried 2 fans and both do not fit the housing in the ceiling. The upgrade fan assembly is too tall and hits the top of the ceiling housing which causes it to jam up.

This was a perfect fit replacement for my 683-C. No modification necessary. Didn’t realize the old one had gotten so lame before it started making bearing noise. Moving much more air now. The tape suggestion from another reviewer is rock solid.

Bought two because I was unsure of the replacement quality. First one had a slight tilt to the fan and caused the fan to hit the encloser on the sides. Second one was hitting the top of the encloser. Removed the rubber bumpers between the the motor and the mounts to the bracket, this solved the problem for the second one. Runs quite, fast and really sucks. When you buy replacement parts from Amazon, your always run the risk of some issue. Best of luck.

A week ago, the exhaust fan in one of our bathrooms failed. Not uncommon given the cheap mass production of these fans. The pancake motors and flimsy plastic fan blades are easily loaded up with dust and hair spray. We found this replacement assembly from Vvoo and checked compatibility. Amazingly, it is cheaper to replace the old unit with a brand new one, but that requires a lot of extra work removing the old housing and hooking up the ductwork. It's a lot easier withdrawing the old broken fan out and pivoting a new one in. We had forgotten the appearance of the old fan since we installed it 10 years ago, so were a little worried when we compared the two. This Vvoo fan has a squirrel cage blower fan and a more substantial motor. It is indeed an upgrade.A few modifications are necessary to make it work. Our exhaust fan is a Broan 678-G, the very first one listed on the description page at Amazon. You can see the evident differences in our photos. In our case, two sides of the sheet metal frame needed to be bent inwards a little more to clear the sides of the housing. Once clear, the fan tilted upwards until it reached its limit, but it wasn't in deep enough. Upon removal, we found that the press-fit fan was just barely flush the motor shaft. A sharp rap with a small tool moved the fan down the shaft. It took a few soft blows to get it seated further down the shaft, but it worked well. Then we reinstalled the fan and found that the excess shaft length was bottoming out in the housing. We again removed the fan assembly and we used a hack saw to remove the extra shaft material. Once this was performed, the assembly installed perfectly. After reinstalling the light reflector, vent frame and lens, the fan works better than it ever has before. The fan operated smoothly and with lest motor hum than the old one. It also moves a considerable larger amount of air. Time to replace including the modifications was about 1/2 hour.
