Easier for the New Guy-Your new crew can be setting lines back while you drive the boat. Its also easier to glance over and double check where they set the line, which is not possible if he was counting pulls.
This is why guides will almost always use line counter fishing reels when pulling a trolling spread.
This is very helpful when fighting multiple fish in the boat at once. With line counters, you'll know which angler is likely to have the first fish boat side and ready for the net.

This is my first line counter reel and second reel from this brand. They offer a nice quality reel for the money it feels smooth and well made and has a beautiful finish but with anything like this only time will tell if it's as good as it seems out the box. Only downside was it didn't come with a reel clamp which was disappointing can't wait for my next fishing trip to try it out

I troll on Lake Erie and needed a couple new reels, I figured I would give this a try! These reels are heavy and they have nice crisp locking! I do like the reels but first time out the handle fell off one of the reels and I had stop fishing and find a screwdriver to remove the set screw on the handle so I could put the nut back on the reel handle, when building the reels please pay attention to your workmanship, wasn’t happy! Therefore, I give this a low rating since it didn’t last three hours!

I found this reel excellent for off shore fishing especially for the reef and sandy areas. The drag is easy to adjust and and seems handle some large snapper /reef fish without to much hassle. Whilst I was interested in the line counter but I notice when dropping the line in deep water the meter is clicking over quite fast but if you slow the drop by adding some drag then the counter is quite readable. Overall excellent value and a trusty reliable reel for saltwater fishing.

Great value for the money. Reels feel quality. Line counters arent 100% accurate all the time and are off by up to a foot when calibrating. Spool is only 3/4 of the way full, even with braid, when calibrated. A full spool would be nice. Screws on the line counter housing were not all the way tightened down, i own 6 of the ls40r models, making the line counter jump and stop counting at 99’. Took them all apart and put some grease on the line counter main gears and worm gears and put back together. All the other gears appeared to be greased properly. I Pulled line out again and it was rolling over to 100’. The 100’ reel does not display in the window all the way, kinda annoying... Should work good now though. Good reel for the money.

SECOND UPDATE: Don't purchase this reel. I was sent the replacement as described below. I had an opportunity to take my son and two grandsons out deep in the gulf. A shark hit the reel not stripped from the first purchase and the gears stripped. So, both of the reels from the first purchase were destroyed by large fish. We had the replacement I was sent. Nothing large enough to take out drag hit it. So it hasn't been tested yet to see. However, a few days later I went out again, and the counter stopped working on the replacement reel. This was only the second trip with the reel. I informed Sougayilang. They said they would send me another replacement. This was 7-18-2021. I have not heard a thing. So, out of 3 of these reels, two were destroyed by large fish and the counter isn't working on the third.UPDATE: As explained below, I had problems getting Sougayilang to reply to my email. However, they finally did. I don't know if Amazon contacted them or they saw my review. They sent me a new or refurbished, reel. I haven't had an opportunity to put line on it as of this date, but I did want to update my review. I owe them this much. So, I changed my review from 1 star to 4 until I get it checked out. Thank you Sougayilang. (BTW, it's a really nice looking reel with a loud clicker just right to hear when trolling. My only complaint was one of the two I initially purchased began slipping when reeling in a large fish no matter how tight the drag was set, not the line. It was the gears, or something inside slipping and making a loud noise.)I am very disappointed with this company. I purchased two Sougayilang Line Counter Trolling Reels September 12, 2020. I used them a few times and was pleased with the reels to begin with. However, with a good fish on, one of the reels began to slip making a grinding sound. I first thought the drag was not tight enough, but no, it was plenty tight and the sound was not the sound of line being taken. The sound was mechanical. This was in November and It got worse. With fishing season over I put the reels away not thinking about it until May 2021 when I began fishing again. Of course, it did it more and worse. I emailed Sougayilang May 26, 2021 explaining the problem and asking what to do as far as a replacement or repair. It's now June 1, 2021 and I have not heard anything back. The reel is pretty and seems to be made well but it's obviously not. Don't purchase it. A large fish will strip the mechanism. Seems Sougayilang would at least reply to my email.

This company was awesome enough to reach out to me and send me another one free of charge to test and ensure the new product worked as desired. Fast shipping and great product. In good hands with this company. Thank you!Old Review:I bought this primarily as line counter for trolling - unfortunately the counter is way off. I use the line release by hand - counting method. Beyond that gears are strong and other features function properly.
