Yikes it sounds like an AMC or old Chrysler starter, it spins my 7.3IDI fast enough to crank it. Im rebuilding the original Mitsi starter as this one just sounds like its gonna let go. But for the price its worth it. Ive had it for a couple of months now. Bonus tech tip get you a exhaust stud to hang in place of the upper bolt. Thread it in with some lock tight and two nuts cut the tip of the stud off, back the 2 nuts off to cut the thread, unless you have avery deep socket 9/16 to reattach the starter. Makes it much easier to instal

This ol girl would flip a battleship on her side. Bought this for my 6.9 IDI, it bolts right up and starts it right up. A bargain at twice the price.

So just save the hassle and buy from these guys. High torque spins it fast like it should. Way easier to install than stock. If your old one burnt up check your wires before installing to make sure they work still. Bought another brand had to send back this one fired right up just in time for the big storm saving my plow season! Thanks db great job

This starter was a good cost effective replacement for my 1977 Case 580 C Construction King Diesel Backhoe. The wire locations are lower and required extending the alternator and solenoid wires… the battery cables had enough length. Good start on the cold days we’ve had in Ontario this January. Cranks a little slower than original, but stays constant speed long enough to fire up. The old started would crank fast for a couple revs, but die off and kill batteries quick. Very pleased so far… gets a lot of use, so if dies I’ll update.

Bought this cause my starter went out in my 1993 7.3 IDI with an E4OD. I did research before I bought this and got various conclusions on whether or not it would fit, but in the end Amazon was right and this fit like a glove. If you've ever put a starter in anything you can put both hands around and still have plenty of room you know how easy they are to install, and this one was quick and simple. Fits like a dream and cranks my diesel at 450 rpm.

As I mentioned in the title DB Electrical is a great company, that being said... If you buy one of these through Amazon I suggest using it more than I did. I installed this starter on my '93 F-350 which sees partial use at best (it's and ether junkie and has a few bugs to work out still), about a month ago. Last time I drove the truck was 2+ weeks ago. I went to move it a few nights ago and this very starter failed. Of course to return it for a replacement was off the table because it was past due for return... Amazon did give me a return on my money, but that was after finally getting to speak to a rep that I had some difficulty understanding. I almost feel the extra cost to deal with the actual company would be worth it for the reason of? When you can call customer support you speak to a real person without the 10 minutes of, here speak to this automated response system that might not help but, we're not offering real help until the 3rd try.I'll get off my soapbox now.

I still have my first truck which is a 1993 f-250 7.3 IDI turbo diesel which I use all year long this starter has made all the difference in starting. it used to crank for about 5 to 10 seconds before catching with this new starter it’s basically running as soon as you turn the key. And with the Canadian winter on the way I’m looking forward to seeing how this works.

Installed on a 1987 Ford F250 6.9 IDI TDAt first seeing the price of this starter, I was skeptical. I didn't know how good this one would be, but most guys who have IDI diesels say this is the one to buy, and I couldn't agree more. The cranking speed is almost matching idle speed with 2 very strong batteries. It's also a lot more compact than the original unit since it uses a gear box to give it that extra kick to spin my heavy engine over. It fits perfectly, and uses the space there a little bit better.Just keep in mind, when you're changing this starter to disconnect your batteries. It's so easy to short that big positive wire out. The first two bolts on the bottom are easy to get out, but get the one on the top first so it doesn't fall on you while you're struggling to get it out. The stock starter is one heavy SOB. Once your stock one is out, the only hard thing to get at is that top bolt, but its a lot harder to get a grip on because of the way this new starter is oriented. That's pretty much it. Took me about 45 minutes to change and install the new one.You need either a 1/2 or 9/16 socket for the 3 bolts holding the starter to the trans, an 11/16 for the positive wire terminal, and a 5/16 for the signal wire. Having some longer extensions will make that top bolt a lot easier, and a universal joint or swivel socket will help get the new one in when you go to install that top bolt.

Naturally the starter went out in the dead of winter, so it took me a while to get this put in (truck to tall to fit in garage). One hint...that pesky top bolt got a whole lot easier when I took the old starter apart while it was still on the truck. Took the two long bolts loose on the sides of the starter and slid the cap and 1/2 the inner workings out in one fell swoop. Install was a little awkward, but overall not difficult. Now the reason for 5 stars...I hadn't started the pickup in over a month. Usually I'd be cranking the old starter for quite a while. This new starter...HOLY COW! Man does it spin the engine fast and that increased compression does wonders..it started right up and I was totally shocked! Honestly it starts like a gas engine. It is a tad "annoying" sound wise, like someone hooked an old mopar starter to a screen door. I had my doubts when I read about "fast starts" and I'm here to tell you...that's not a lie!

Well, I was unsure of the quality of this starter at this price but thought I would try it as starters in my area were $150. plus for rebuilds. I am glad so far that I purchased this one as it truly makes a difference in starting a diesel. My 7.3 now fires up so fast and hardly smokes at all on startup as this starter spins it fast enough over the old one that the compression heat seems to be greater at startup. I hope it last as well as the old one did. Installation was easy but I found the top bolt on the 7.3 to be harder to access with this one than the old one however the cable wiring is much easier to access. Hope this helps those of you who still drive these older diesels, they are hard to beat.

Awesome starter! Shopped around a little before purchasing this, and I'm glad I did! It's a major upgrade. My 7.3 is running INSTANTLY. Serious power, and a really easy install compared to stock. Overall length is a few inches shorter (sweet!), and solenoid attachments are thankfully relocated to the bottom of the starter; making connect/disconnects a breeze. Great product; excellent price... two thumbs up!
