The undisputed domestique in Shimano's lineup is its 105-level components. Sure, it's never going to match the lightweight build as the GC leading Dura-Ace components, but the price-to-performance ratio and its durability make it a teammate you can always depend on. For the newest version of this venerable group, Shimano has created gear ranges that will satisfy elite road cyclists to gravel grinders, and everything in between, allowing you to build up a bike that suits your riding. With this particular cluster, Shimano constructs the 11-speed 105 CS-HG700 Cassette to fit on 10-speed native road freehubs as well as including a spacer for use with 11-speed spaced freehub bodies. This, of course, means it will work with mountain hubs with 9 through 11-speed spaced freehubs as well, so if you have some wheels sitting around that can be repurposed to a touring, gravel, or cross bike, this is the cassette you need. Have that smooth Shimano shifting with a rangy 11-34 tooth spread, letting you find the ideal cadence to pedal your way through any adventure. Shimano's experience in machining and engineering allows for exceptional amounts of technology to go into tooth design, shaping, and shifting ramps, known as Hyperglide, and luckily, Shimano does a good job trickling this technology from Dura-Ace down through Ultegra, and here on the 105. Made from nickel-plated steel, the cogs themselves withstand corrosion and are tough enough to hold up to off-road abuse, which provides durability for smooth shifting and longer life. The CS-HG700 comes in only one size, 11-34, a large enough gear range to work for road, 'cross, and gravel. Please note that this cassette must be paired with the correct derailleur, as it will not work with a short cage, and requires medium or long cage derailleurs to shift properly.

I had allowed my old chain to stretch WAY too much and was concerned that I likely ruined my cassette and chain ring so I swapped them. Replacing the cassette was incredibly easy (plenty of how-to videos online). I bought the $10 Park Tool Shimano cassette tool, but I did manage to actually remove the old cassette with the "needle nose pliers method" that I found online before the tool arrived. I also did not have a chain whip? tool and simply used the old chain clamped with vice grips to keep the cassette from spinning.A quick overview of the needle nose method:1. Remove the rear wheel and lay flat on the floor with the cassette on top.2. Using a chain whip, pipe wrench, large channel locks, etc..., prevent the hub from spinning.3. Insert small needle nose pliers into the hub... pull out on the handle to spread the needle nose part as wide as possible inside the hub. Try to get the needle nose into 2 of the slots that are in the center, across from each other.4. While applying pressure to spread the tips of the needle nose, rotate the needle nose pliers counter clockwise. If it comes off, GREAT! If not, you may need the cassette tool. With the cassette tool, I still found that I did not need the chain whip. I held the cassette still with a towel and used an impact on the cassette tool. It broke loose quickly this way on all 3 of my bikes.Last thing: I did clean the freehub before reassembly, and lubed all of the gears on the cassette before I finished the install. While I was in there, I also cleaned the derailleur cogs. I am very happy with this item!

Needed a cassette for a new wheel for my trainer matching my road wheel & cassette. So all I have to do is pull off the trainer wheel, and put on the road wheel.. No more switching tires.

It’s Shimano 105, what can I say. Durable 11 speed cassette. Caught it on sale but always a great value.

If you're like me (getting older, heavier and slower), you need a bit more gearing to make it up the gnarly grades. I typically run a compact crank with an 11-30 cassette, but needed some lower gearing for sustained double-digit grades, and the occasional 15+% shredders. I got this cassette and paired it with a GRX derailleur. I like the 34-tooth cog as my bail-out, but still adapting the the big spread on the smaller cogs.
