Product Description

For securing boxes and pallets, bundling pipe or reinforcing large bulk containers, Scotch Filament Tape 893 is a high-strength, reliable and affordable solution for product and package. This filament-reinforced tape has a clear, polypropylene backing that resists abrasion, moisture, scuffing and breaks, even if nicked or punctured.

From the Manufacturer

Laminated Adhesive Layer Provides Extra Measure of Protection
Designed as a high performance packaging tape, Scotch Filament Tape 893 combines a strong polypropylene backing reinforced with continuous glass yarn filaments and a pressure-sensitive rubber resin adhesive. This aggressive adhesive provides an excellent balance of initial adhesion and long-term holding power to most fiberboard surfaces, including recycled and printed fiberboard. The multi-layer adhesive system prevents delamination to help ensure tape strength and performance throughout the application. Scotch Filament Tape 893 is a good choice for heavy-duty sealing, shipping, splicing, palletizing and is used throughout the automotive, furniture, metalworking, transportation and general industrial markets.

Provides Very Good Holding Power Under a Wide Range of Conditions
The adhesive provides good initial adhesion and holds well with minimum rub-down. The tough, clear film backing is abrasion and moisture resistant, offers good aging and protects the filaments and adhesive to help your boxes remain closed for long period of time. The backing, filaments, and adhesive combine to provide high tensile and shear strength and provide an extra layer of security against tampering and product theft. This tape gives you good holding under wide range of conditions with a minimum amount of tape, leading to lower cost for applications where high tensile strength is a main requirement.

Its impossible for any tape product to surpass what's offered by 3M.I always carried a roll of filament tape in my truck, just incase I needed to rescue someone stuck in the ditch.Simply make a few full length continuous passes to each vehicle, and you saved their day.So packaging, if it goes full circle, that box is not opening, even thrown out on the freeway.Only problem, I didn't notice seller ships with USPS, so Amazon didn't make this clear, and PO sent it back 4 days before Amazon stating it was delivered to my door. So I dont know when Ill get this product replaced by actual Amazon business. Our street is the only one in the village that can not have mailboxes. It's a snow emergency route.USPS won't deliver Amazon to your door regardless how much you paid.Cheers

For years, I used clear packing tape like this . It works great, and it's probably at least as good as what large online merchants like Amazon use. However, you may have noticed that sometimes your shipments from Amazon arrive with part of the tape torn or ripped. Amazon has surely done the cost/benefit on all of their shipping materials, and they save money on a huge amount of tape in return for having to replace some small percentage of shipments that get damaged.I'm not an online dealer, and the packages that I send are few but unique items that I send to family and friends. So, I want to make sure that the tape stays intact. I switched to to virtually eliminate the possibility of tape being torn, but after trying this tape, I just might switch again. To me, this is a great happy medium between regular packing tape and the bi-directional unless you are shipping very heavy packages. This tape has extra strength and protection against tearing across the width, which is the failure that I've seen in every piece of torn tape on delivered packages. Tearing down the length is pretty difficult unless someone intentionally cuts it, and if they do that, any tape is going to give way. This tape is easier to work with and less expensive than the bi-directional, and it's strong enough to give me piece of mind when I'm sending all but the heaviest packages. For heavy packages, I'll still use the bi-directional even if I don't need it simply because it gives me more confidence. One note - the unused roll is thick enough that I can't quite get it to fit on my (it might fit, but I couldn't quite get it to work), but it will fit after I use some of it.Highly recommended.

I am fairly particular about tape and believe you definitely get what you pay for, regardless if you are talking about tape for office use or packing tape. As funny as it sounds, I was glad to be offered the opportunity to try this tape and use it for packaging and other things around the house. I am a huge fan of duct tape as well, and found it interesting that I could use this tape in many of the same ways I use duct tape. For packaging and sealing boxes, this tape worked great, especially when incorporating the H style of taping a package. However, I was surprised when I was cutting the tape and it split up a couple of inches when I did not get the full cut with my scissors the first time. The filaments seem to be linear, not cross-hatched, therefore it can easily split when cutting if you are not careful.Nonetheless, I had no worries about this tape coming undone on the heavy packages I was shipping during Christmas. I also used the tape to repair a cracked handle on a Rubbermaid storage container, which I normally repair with duct tape. The tape adhered well and seems to be doing just as good of a job as the duct tape normally does. When I checked the price to see how much it would cost to buy some myself, I was taken aback at the high cost. If I buy the tape myself, I would definitely not use it for packaging stuff every day. I can buy high quality packaging tape which costs much less per roll than this stuff. However, this tape most definitely has a place in your house for repairs or reinforcement when needed. I will definitely buy a roll when this one is gone!

Masking tape: for covering up and not for holdingPackaging tape: sticks well to cardboard"Duck" tape: strong, easy to use without scissors, holds your airplane together (see Mythbusters)Filament (strapping) tape; the tape being reviewed: Really strong. fiberglass reenforced for wrapping up a cardboard box full of engine parts. Wrapped around object or box completely, it sticks well to itself and has to be cut with a dispenser, scissors, or xacto type tool. This tape is longitudinally reenforced. Some tapes have crosswise fiberglass strands as well. This does not. But it sticks well and cuts easily and so far doesn't seem to be separating so that you have to pick pieces of it loose to get it going again. One star off because the backing is fairly thin, compromising its strength somewhat. Another star off because it was not cut cleanly at the factory: it sometimes does not come up cleanly at the edges so that a ridge of tape strands build up along the sides.
